Toddler
Programmes
Half Day Programme - 18 Months to 36 months of age
The Half Day Toddler Programme offers our younger students an opportunity
to explore the Montessori preliminary activities in the practical life,
sensorial, language and culture areas of the classroom. Accompanied by
gross motor activities, this programme is designed to meet the specific
needs of an active toddler. Class runs 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Full Day Programme - 24 Months to 4 years
During the transition time between Toddler and Casa, our younger
students are placed in either a morning toddler or casa class depending
on the student's level of readiness and toilet training. At the end of
the morning programme, children move to the toddler environment where they
have an assisted lunch period, rest time, and outdoor play activities.
Under the direction of a specially trained Montessori toddler teacher,
the full day students have the opportunity to continue their
exploration in the specially designed toddler classroom for the balance
of the afternoon. Class runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Casa
Half Day Programme - 3 to 5 years of age
A
strong
academic foundation is set during this time when students are given an
opportunity to experience and manipulate a broad array of specially
designed, concrete learning materials under the direction of the
Montessori trained teacher. Students stay in the same classroom for a 3
year cycle. The half day programme is complemented with additional
studies in French and Music. Class runs 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Casa Full Day Programme - 4 and 5 years of age
The full day Casa Programme provides an opportunity for children to
further focus on more complex areas of the Casa classroom. Children
remain in the same classroom to complete the second and third year of
the three year Casa programme. Students are supervised for lunch and
recess after which they participate in an afternoon programme
specifically designed for the needs of this age group. Physical
Education, music and French are offered to all full day students. Class
runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Elementary Programme Grades 1 to 6
- 6 to 12 years of age
The
elementary programmes consist of two 3 year cycles: 6 to 9 years of age
and 9 to 12 years of age. In a Montessori elementary classroom the
children do not just learn... they develop the skills of how to learn.
Children entering the elementary programme from the casa programme have
already acquired the basics in reading, writing, math, geometry, and
culture. They are now ready to build upon these skills and apply them
to researching their many interests. These core areas of study are
complimented with studies in French, art, drama, music, physical
education and a variety of carefully planned outings into the
community. After school sports clubs are available to meet
the growing social needs of the older children. Class runs 8:30 a.m. to
3:30 p.m.
Junior High Programme Grades 7 and 8
- 12 to 14 years of age
The
Junior High further develops the skills of the emerging adolescent.
Complex studies in Literature, Mathematics, Science, Dramatic Arts, French, Music, and Research challenge students
who are preparing for secondary education. Students also form
committees to assist with school leadership and mentoring. The course
of studies is complemented by out-of-school activities, field trips, "erdkinder" studies", and
community service work. Class runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
